How long does a ceramic coating actually last on a daily-driven car?

Accepted Answer

The honest answer: it depends on how the car is driven, where it's stored, and how it's washed after install.

A professionally-installed System X or Revivify coating on a daily-driven car typically gives 2–5 years of real-world protection when maintained on a simple wash schedule with a pH-neutral soap and a clean mitt. Garage-kept weekend cars go longer. Cars that sit outside under trees or see heavy highway mileage will see the hydrophobic effect taper sooner than the underlying protection.

We base the warranty window on what the manufacturer publishes for the specific product at the certification level we install it at — not generic 'lifetime' claims — and we hand you the literature at delivery.

Real longevity comes from the prep work: multi-stage decon and paint correction before the coating goes on is what lets it bond to clear coat instead of sitting on top of swirls. We won't quote a multi-year coating on a car that needs correction first — we'll quote the correction as a separate, written line item.

Question 2

What's the difference between paint correction and a polish?

Accepted Answer

Paint correction and a polish aren't the same service, even though detailers sometimes use the words interchangeably.

A polish is a one-step process that lightly refines the surface — it boosts gloss and removes very light haze or buffer trails from a prior detail. It's a finishing step, not an aggressive one.

Paint correction is a multi-stage process. We measure paint thickness, pick pad and compound pairings against the reading, then work in controlled passes until the finish reads flat under lighting. On a black or dark-colour car in direct sun, the difference is visible.

We quote correction as its own line item and write up exactly what stages we'll run before any coating goes on. If a car doesn't need correction we'll tell you that too — we don't upsell stages the paint doesn't need. Cheap detailers 'polish' with a one-step glaze and call it correction; we pull paint-thickness readings, write the stages down in your quote, and show you the finish under a swirl-finding light before any coating is applied.

Question 3

How do I care for my new window tint in the weeks after install?

Accepted Answer

Just-installed Geoshield film needs about a week before it's fully cured. Small water bubbles and a slightly hazy look are normal during that window and will go away on their own.

Avoid rolling the windows down for the first 3–5 days. After that, don't wipe the inside of the glass with anything but a soft microfiber and a tint-safe cleaner — no ammonia-based glass cleaners (Windex and similar) and no paper towels, which can micro-scratch the film over time.

Geoshield film is rated for the heat and UV we get in western Kentucky, and it carries the manufacturer warranty we hand you at delivery. If anything lifts, peels, or shows discoloration inside the warranty window, we handle the claim with Geoshield directly — you don't file it yourself.

After it's cured, treat the film like regular glass: soft cloth, mild cleaner, no abrasives. Avoid leaving the car under direct summer sun for weeks at a time if you can help it; the film protects the cabin, but extreme heat still stresses every component of the car.

How long does marine detailing prep take before a ceramic coating?

Marine — boats and watercraft — takes longer than a similarly-sized car because of the surface area, the gel-coat vs. automotive paint difference, and the conditions boats live in.

For oxidation removal and a polish on a typical recreational boat, plan on 2–4 working days at the shop. A ceramic coating on top of a corrected gel-coat adds another day for prep, application, and the multi-day cure window before the boat goes back in the water. We won't release a coated boat to the trailer before the full cure is documented — putting a fresh coating into the water early shortens its life dramatically.

Shrink-wrap removal, fuel-system flushing, and interior mould remediation all add cost and time, and they're quoted separately. Send us photos and the boat's location — marina slip, on a lift, or on a trailer — and we'll come back with a written scope before we put anything on the calendar.

How far do you travel for mobile detailing and pickups?

Our base is in Owensboro, and we cover Henderson and the surrounding counties for mobile service within a reasonable drive. Inside that radius we can do pickups and drop-offs by appointment.

Outside the everyday radius — anywhere we can't drive to a job and back in a working day without burning the schedule — we still come to you, but the trip requires a written quote that includes the travel line item, and we group mobile days by region so the calendar stays honest. Mobile days typically run Tuesdays and Thursdays when the calendar allows.

Anything shop-based runs out of our Owensboro bay. Drop-offs are by appointment so the car goes straight to a tech instead of sitting on the lot overnight.

Question 6

How do deposits work when I book a detail?

We take a deposit to lock a slot on the calendar. For ceramic coatings and multi-step packages it's typically 30% of the quoted total, applied to the final invoice.

The deposit is refundable up to 7 days before the scheduled appointment. Inside that window, the slot is hard to backfill, so the deposit is non-refundable unless we cancel — which we don't do unless the weather or a vehicle condition on arrival forces a reschedule. If we reschedule, the deposit carries to the new date.

The remaining balance is due at pickup, when the car is finished and you've signed off on the result. We don't run surprise add-ons at delivery — anything beyond the original quote is approved in writing before the work goes on the car.

For fleet and recurring programs the deposit structure is different and is spelled out in the contract before any vehicle shows up.

Question 7

What happens if the weather turns bad on my scheduled day?

Accepted Answer

Kentucky weather can turn a clear morning into a thunderstorm by afternoon, and outdoor work windows shift around the forecast.

For mobile jobs, any forecast that puts rain or sustained wind on the work window gets rescheduled — no charge, no penalty, and your deposit carries to the new date. We watch the 72-hour forecast and call the reschedule 24–36 hours ahead when we can see it coming.

For shop-based jobs, weather rarely forces a reschedule because the work happens inside, but extreme cold affects coating cure times. We'll move the appointment forward or back to keep the cure window in the right temperature range.
